Happy saturday night! My saturday nights usually compose of watching crap telly (I don’t like clubs… I used to when I was single now I just get bored)

Anyway because I just can’t sit still and watch telly I have to multi task tonight I decided to work on this that I drew up last night and its a first for me because I designed the dress, and I have never done that before!

I absolutely love Tudor style dresses especially the corset top, I feel a shame this style isn’t used anymore because it’s especially flattering if you’re not gifted with a flat stomach. Anyway its the big full skirts that feel especially heavy so I decided to give it a light tutu skirt with lots of layers.

Ahh I miss Paris… I have only ever been once but i feel in love with the city while I was there. Whilst I don’t believe in visiting a place over and over again (spain every year for 12 years? Whats the point?) I would quite happily visit Paris a few more times…

I have been wanting to learn to do Gif’s for a while now ever since I saw Paperfashion  and I thought it suits fashion illustration REALLY well! Also seeing all these Vine video’s around Gif’s have become VERY popular. So I thought I would go for it today and i have to say this… it’s so fun! And seriously addictive! For some reason got it into my head that it’s UBER complicated but what I didn’t realise is it’s so easy in photoshop! I can’t stop! So far I am just playing with illustrations I have already done… it’s just too fun!

When I had a fringe though the phrase was “BLOODY FRINGE!!” they sadly don’t suit me very well.

I actually managed to get this completed from start to finish today, doesn’t normally happen that way normally spend one day drawing, one day editing.

I think my title says it all! I quite like insects I think they can be quite pretty, when I was a kid I would potter around my garden looking at them, saving them from birds, even now I am reluctant to kill insects (except mosquito’s little blighters!)

Well I finally get to show you guys this! I did this well over a month ago now for the Gallery of Fashion Art (I won’t bother putting a link as they are redoing the site)

they asked me to do portrait of a person (or POP) of Michelle Obama and I wanted to do a small twist on the whole red, white and blue thing, so I came up with this.

Heres my… I’m not sure what it is. Its a creature I have made up because apparently there is no word for a lion, deer, lady. Who knew? Can you think of one?

Anyway this came around from a list of ideas I have to get through, but it was actualised thanks to Birdy & Me I read this post on how she does her illustrations, most of it was somewhat the same as most illustrators except how she creates her concepts. See first she uses photoshop to create a reference image she wants first and then draws it. I honestly have no idea how this idea never occurred to me before! It means I can create images without flipping back and forth between a bunch of pictures on my IPad! Its brilliant this way I get the image I want and to do a quick fix if it doesn’t quite work and use something else. Yeah it takes a little while to do the reference image (about 15 mins) but its so worth it especially if you want realistic results when you draw them. My other method was very 50/50. My drawings should improve now!

So back to what I have drawn here, I had this idea for a Sagittarius picture to have antlers for eyebrows (everyone does them in the hair or as hoods and I wanted to do something different) but when I added big hair I couldn’t resist going for a full on MANE. Hope you like it!

I wanted to do a quick study on lips because I feel like it’s a weak point of mine when trying to make them look realistic but I figured out where I was going wrong, I never used to do the light areas!

I think this is much better now.

This here is a proper mixed media queen, although everything she does is by hand! Charcoal, acrylics, pencils she isn’t afraid of any of them!

I have to say my utter favourites are when she goes really basic black and white photo realistic drawings like this

Thats so beautiful. I honestly don’t know how she doesn’t go cross eyed drawing in thats much detail (or maybe I just need to go to the opticians?)

Most of her work though is like this her concepts are always really inventive and colourful

Back to basics with this one, I kind of moved away from concentrating on the sketches that need completing and drew this up last night, in my defence though if i stop drawing I could possibly forget how to draw and then have to learn all over again and nobody wants that do they? Exactly ;P

I love this film since I first went to see it the set up the director (Joe Wright) used to make it feel like a theatre and how the scenes seem to almost dance into each other was simply amazing!

This little series of drawings for this has been sitting on my desk for well over a month now just waiting to be shaded and my pledge to finish my pile of half forgotten drawings I started to go for the biggest one first.

I love colour don’t you? When I first started drawing i only ever used to use pencil but you get so sick of everything being grey… don’t get me wrong their are some beautiful artists out there who only work in black and white or various shades of grey (ever so nearly said 50 there!) but the world without be ever so dull if there weren’t rainbows in it.

Well since my fine-liners are well and truly F***ed I have been giving them a miss as outlines around my illustrations and I have to say I like it, the shading used to look paler nest to thick black lines and not stand out as much. This way its the perfect amount of soft and bold. I think its here to stay.

Ohh it’s all abut the blondes today!

I was watching Tangled while I worked today (because you know I’m such a grown up ) and I thought I would do a quick illustration of tangled when I had this idea.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

This took me about 2 hours of drawing constant lines and gave me quite the headache and quite blurred vision for a while (I am currently arguing with my optician if i need glasses, he gave me “eye exercises”  which doesn’t help when I’m drawing or on the computer) so I think I may go rest my eyes for a while…

Oh my God has this been a long time in the making! I have had this in my head to do for a while now and haven’t had chance to finally get round to finishing it.

So heres the extremely talented Kelly Smith AKA Birdy & Me. I think you will all agree with me that the quality of her work is simply impeccable I only wish some day that I will be producing work half as good as this.

Heres me favourite pieces of hers that I want to share with you.
